In this 3:40-minute video, data from the 2016 Global Trends: Forced Displacement report show that 2016 was the third successive record-breaking year for the number of persons forced to flee their homes around the world. 1 person is displaced every 3 seconds globally. That is 65.6 million people.
The report reveals the total 2016 number of refugees as 25.5 million, the highest number ever recorded.
40.3 million people were displaced inside their own country. On average 1 in every 113 is now displaced - equal to the 20th most populous country in the world, greater than Britain.
1 out of every 2 refugees is a child.
