The Ontario government has started a two-week consultation on the province's proposed Bill 148, also known as the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017.
To help develop this legislation, the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs is travelling to 10 communities to hear from residents and business owners . Dates and locations of the committee hearings are available on the Ontario Legislature website.
The Ontario government aims to ensure proposed changes give all workers the opportunity to succeed and get ahead through a broad, inclusive consultation process. The highlights of these changes include hiking the minimum wage, ensuring part-time workers are paid the same hourly wage as full-time workers, introducing paid sick days for every worker, enabling at least three weeks' vacation after five years with the same employer and stepping up enforcement of employment laws.
