Description:
OCASI - Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants cordially is pleased to announce our Self-Directed E-learning Training on: Supporting LGBTQIA+ Newcomers through Positive Spaces.
This course will help you build positive spaces in your agencies, in your communities, and within yourselves. Before we can begin to explore what positive spaces are and how to build them, we must first understand how to create an environment where positive spaces are possible. This module provides a critical foundation for the rest of the course.
Here, we will explore what a framework is and think critically about the impacts of colonialism, racism, and oppression in our lives, work, and communities. We will then locate ourselves in the context of these different systems in order to create sustainable structures.
Upon completion of the training, you will be able to:
- Critically engage with the relationship between settler colonialism, the settlement sector, and LGBTQIA+ communities
- Apply your understanding of anti-racism, anti-oppression, intersectionality, and related key concepts to enhance your work with immigrants, refugees, and people without status in Canada
- Reflect on your own social location, identities, and experiences
- Develop best practices on how to support service users

Please note: You will have a period of 45 days to access and finish the course. Enroll early! At the successful completion of the entire e-course, you will receive a certification of completion from OCASI.
