Immigration is a key factor in the economic viability of rural communities. From meeting labour needs to entrepreneurial activities that ensure continued access to goods and services, immigrants help sustain economies in rural areas.

Please join us February 20 for an Immigration Summit supported by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration which concentrates on the economic importance of immigration in rural areas. This summit will be of interest to economic development practitioners, employers, and stakeholders in the business and settlement sectors.

At the event we will share stories of immigrant entrepreneurs in Wellington County, hear strategies from employers who have hired immigrants, and learn about resources available to help businesses attract and retain newcomer workers. We will also have a session focusing on advocacy, targeting the provincial and federal governments to highlight that current immigration programmes do not meet the needs of many rural industries.
