Summary:

Eligible candidates are invited to apply for MNS’ After School Program (ASP) Facilitator position with Malton Neighbourhood Services. As the Program Facilitator, you would organize and implement physical, healthy, and educational after-school activities for middle school students every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 3-6pm at Morning Star Middle School.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with ASP team to plan, implement and participate in highly physical activities based on the ASP Guidelines
  • Engage all program participants in sports and recreation using a variety of creative techniques
  • Organize and facilitate interactive group sessions, in particular as they relate to sports and physical activity, and other topics as related to the ASP Guidelines
  • Create and maintain a positive and safe environment for youth, including vigilant supervision of participants during program
  • Prepare healthy and creative snacks for the program participants
  • Act as a positive role model, support and mentor to youth participants
  • Monitor records of attendance and other relevant program information

Qualifications:

  • Obtained or pursuing a post-secondary degree in a child/youth related field such as Sport and Leisure, Child and Youth Worker, Kinesiology, Social Worker, Ontario Certified Teacher etc.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with sports and recreation is required
  • 1-3 years’ experience working with youths in a social and/or recreational setting
  • Must be able to work outdoors and to participate in the physical activities of the program
  • Ability to creatively engage youth in safe, positive and healthy activities according to ASP guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Previous group facilitation experience is an asset, as is knowledge of the Malton community
  • Work must be guided by a commitment to diversity and anti-oppressive practices

This is a part-time short-term contract position from May 24 to June 22, 2017
Schedule: 9 hours per week (3-6 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday)

Police records check (Vulnerable Sector Screening) must be provided upon hire.
It is an asset if the candidate can attend training beforehand.
