Reporting to the Program Manager of the Immigrant Youth Centre, the Assistant Program Manager will provide assistant management support and work in collaboration with the Program Manager in all aspects of the newcomer youth program operation, including effective management and decision-making over parts of the program, which will include the following:

  • Act on behalf of the Program Manager in their absence
  • Supervise and provide leadership and effective management to a team of youth workers
  • Develop, plan, manage, and coordinate implementation of a variety of youth-related services and programs to help facilitate and expedite immigrant youth’s integration into the Canadian society
  • Provide leadership for, manage, and occasionally work together with, front-line staff to monitor the quality of programs delivered, and ensure achievement of the highest standards as well as meet funder requirements
  • Provide written status reports including detailed program implementation timelines as requested by Program Manager
  • Manage the implementation of evaluation measures on program effectiveness and recommend program improvement and refinement
  • Manage the team of youth workers to outreach in the local community to promote youth services, build positive relationships, assist in the identification of community needs and build partnerships
  • Assist Program Manager in providing leadership and vision for the development of CICS’ social media strategy and presence, and designing an effective social media marketing strategy, using all popular platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WeChat) to increase awareness of and access to CICS’ programs and services
  • Keep up to date on issues, policies, and legislation affecting newcomers, especially newcomer youth
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager’s management of the overall program budget, manage and make decisions in relation to the day to day program budget, expenditures, and purchases made by the team
  • As part of CICS risk-management, provide early disclosure on issues/risks, including without limitation regulatory risks, employment risks, to the Program Manager or Program Director as appropriate, or in their absence, to another member of senior management


  • A minimum of a Canadian University degree or equivalent, in Social Sciences, or a related discipline. A relevant combination of training and experience will also be considered
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in a managerial role, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Experience in social media or digital marketing strategy a strong asset
  • Excellent knowledge of cultural, economic, and social needs of immigrant youth and their families, including their settlement and integration issues
  • Knowledge of programs and services for immigrant youth and their families, and resources available to assist them in integration and adaptation to the new society
  • Proven abilities in program and service organization, referrals, workshop facilitation, task management, and working with diverse cultures
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with knowledge on motivation, experience in team building, decision making, delegation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving
  • Experience in resource coordination and program/ service evaluation
  • Excellent oral and written English skills, public speaking, and report writing skills; proficiency in a second language relevant to the community is a strong asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to operate effectively within the organization and externally through interaction, connection, and communication
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines, including managing the time of others
  • Ability to focus on details, undertake planning and information analysis, and report preparation
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, internet, and social media tools
  • Ability to perform some physical activities (e.g. lifting and loading program materials and office equipment)
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and must have access to a car to carry out duties
