On-Call CNC Child Care Worker

Summary

Background: Immigrants Working Centre is an equality seeking, anti-racist; non-profit, charitable organization committed to the social, political and economic inclusion of refugee and immigrant women in Hamilton and across Canada. The on-call Childcare Worker works under the direction of the Care for Newcomer Children - CNC program supervisor on the development and implementation of on-site child care service for the participants for CNC Program.

Minimum Qualifications

• First Aid and CPR Certification
• At least 1 year formal child care experience
• Valid Police Check
• Experience working as a child care provider in the age groups IWC’s CNC program cares for
• Experience working with diverse communities and familiar with principles of diversity and anti-racism
• Record of health assessment including TB test no more than 3 months prior to start date.
• Awareness and understanding of settlement issues and concerns of newcomer children and parents.
• Able to lift 40 lbs

Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with the CNC team to implement daily activities that support and promote the growth of newcomer children in the CNC program.
• Support the CNC team in ensuring that program requirements are being implemented, including health and safety requirements for the program.
• Ensure that multiculturalism is part of activities that foster respect and awareness of other cultures' values, customs and traditions.
• Prepare and/or arrange for necessary program materials.
• Maintain a warm, safe and stimulating atmosphere throughout the program.
• Ensure that all children are given opportunities which contribute towards their physical, social, intellectual and emotional development.
• Discuss with the supervisor children’s progress and problems.
• Help to prepare and set up the activity area before program time, assure that all the facilities and equipment are kept clean, safe and in good repair.
• Be aware of a child-care worker’s responsibility under the Child Protection Act with respect to the welfare of children attending the program.
