MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families is a community organization that strives to address
ethno-cultural communities’ needs in Peel. MIAG is committed to the concept of capacity building and community development. As an agency, we actively integrate creative responses to existing and emerging needs by applying effective outreach, leadership training and skills development programs.
Project Description
Bridge to Employment for Women (BEW) project is designed to prepare women for employment by enhancing their readiness into the emerging job market since the COVID-19 pandemic. It is developed using a holistic wrap around approach that encompasses four main components including: 6 weeks of in demand employment skills enhancement and capacity learning training, a 10 week co-op work experience placement, scheduled networking events with industry professionals, and possible one-to-one mentorship over a 10 month period.
Responsibilities
The Co-op Placement and Mentorship Developer is expected to:
• Arrange co-op placements for all students that have completed the educational component of the program multiple rounds.
• Recruit mentors and pair them up with mentees as needed.
• Research and connect with local businesses and employers for networking events for participants. Help to create networking events in collaboration with the project coordinator.
• Create and maintain up to date files on all participants. Strong working knowledge of cloud-based technologies- Google Workspace and Microsoft 365/Office
• Create and develop evaluation documents and surveys using SurveyMonkey
• Comply with the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Adhere to program specifications and requirements as outlined by management.
• Connect with participants of each round to assess skills for co-op placement. Maintain strong correspondence and communication throughout the 10 weeks and after completion of placement.
• Work collaboratively with the project coordinator and provide weekly written reports on events & updates.
Qualifications
• Bachelor Degree / Diploma in Career and Employment Skills Development, Career Counselling, Human Resources, IT from a recognized university or institution. Special interest in Women’s Studies an asset
• Minimum of three-year experience in project coordination, recruitment, office administration with an anti-oppression framework.
• Strong motivational and empowerment skills and outlook. Demonstrate solid interpersonal, communication, networking skills as well as other essential soft skills.
• Strong knowledge and resourcefulness of in demand careers, career exploration support: support women to learn about various occupations. Ability to assess participants readiness for employment based on their learning progress during the training course.
• Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides as well as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other communication platforms.
• Fluent in speaking, reading and writing English. Knowledge of any other language(s) is an asset.
• Wide knowledge of the available resources in Peel region pertaining employment for women.
• Results driven with excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
• Able to efficiently work independently and as a team player, work effectively with other service providers.
