Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds.

The City of Toronto, under its TO SUPPORTS: COVID-19 Equity Plan has partnered with Rexdale Community Health Centre to address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on racialized and marginalized communities. This funding is to assist with outreach and education, removing barriers for participation in COVID-19 testing and other related health services as well as addressing the social determinants of health that have particular impacts on racialized communities in Rexdale.

Position Summary:

Working closely with the COVID Manager and the Health Promotions Team at RCHC, the Community Outreach Workers will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, information and promote awareness and safety regarding the COVID-19 pandemic within the Rexdale community. The Outreach Workers will also direct community members to the right service and programs for support including food security support, access to financial assistance, access to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and mental health support


(but not limited to)

  • Share COVID-19 related information to community members and local businesses
  • Inform and educate community members on COVID-19 public health measures and reinforce provincial and regional guidelines for physical distancing, hand washing and mask wearing
  • Organize COVID-19 information sessions, and distribute resources through tabling sessions/events, presentations at local community venues, religious venues and businesses
  • Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation through culturally and language specific education and information sessions
  • Promote and educate the community of the potential COVID-19 vaccination program
  • Engage with local businesses, community groups, religious organizations, and respond to community member’s queries and concerns regarding COVID-19 and provide strategies and resources to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID-19
  • Provide guidance on how to properly wear a mask and distribute masks to those who need them
  • Conduct virtual wellness checks on community members in isolation due to a COVID-19 diagnosis
  • Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community


  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in social service work or community work
  • College Diploma preferred but not essential
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English and a second language (French or South Asian)
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and from a variety of locations within the Rexdale Community
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education
  • Ability to motivate a sometimes unreceptive, uninformed or misinformed diverse population, including community members, business owners and other local agencies to modify behavior to reduce and mitigate the spread of COVID-19
  • A high degree of conflict management to dealing effectively with others in hostile situations; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict
  • Sensitivity to people from different socio-economic backgrounds with an equity lens
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities

Full time contract until March 31, 2022
Salary: $22.40 per hour
Hours per week: 35 hours per week (including evenings and weekends)
Starting date: ASAP
Duration: until March 31, 2022
