Overview:

Catholic Crosscultural Services - CCS is a settlement agency providing a range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or immigration status. CCS is seeking a full-time Director, Human Resources & Organizational Development. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director is responsible for oversight of the Human Resources department including operational oversight, and the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive HR strategies that align with the agency’s mission, values and HR best practices. The Director will also support the implementation of the agency’s strategic goals, support Directors to identify innovative service delivery initiatives and quality improvement initiatives, and develop new strategic partnerships to support these activities. Operating in a diverse, multi-cultural and multi-location environment, the ideal candidate is a strategist and a tactician with outstanding knowledge of the settlement sector, and leadership, communication, and coaching skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure agency compliance with all relevant employment legislation and that best practices are applied to all HR policies and operations; educate and support employees to ensure agency-wide understanding and adherence
  • Provide coaching, support and direction to Managers and Directors in all aspects of the employment cycle, from recruitment and orientation through performance evaluation and termination
  • Work with all relevant parties to solve grievance and disciplinary issues, includes coaching and counselling staff and management, guiding disciplinary action, handling employee complaints, and conflict mediation and resolution
  • Monitor, maintain and upgrade HR information systems to ensure database efficiency and effectiveness; liaise with Finance Department to ensure systems integration of relevant functions such as payroll, benefits administration and employee changes
  • Manage the employee benefits program including group health, pension and RSP contributions
  • Provide continuous improvement of HR policies and procedures; ensure polices are in line with appropriate legislations and draft revisions for Board approval
  • Develop agency wide HR plans that address team structure, position design, succession planning and leadership development; ensure up-to-date position descriptions are maintained
  • Manage agency recruitment, selection and onboarding processes within established policies, procedures and budgets
  • Manage the job evaluation process and Pay Equity Plan in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Supervise, direct and evaluate the work of the HR Generalist
  • Support the Executive Director in creating the annual implementation plan to meet strategic goals; evaluate progress and create reports for internal management and Board review
  • Support Directors to Identify, recommend opportunities and attract new funding sources for service expansion that aligned with the agency strategic goals and policies, and support their implementation
  • Evaluates strategies and programs to measure the achievement of established goals.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate in-house training sessions for employees at all levels of the organization
  • Actively participate as a member of the Senior Management Team and support the Board HR Committee
  • Serve as Management Co-Chair for regional Health and Safety Committees
  • As part of the senior management team, provide input and support for the development and implementation of agency wide policies and activities
  • Manage the Agency’s Insurance Policies to ensure sufficient coverage in the workplace.
  • Identify and manage the risks related to the Human Resources.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with a specialization in Human Resources Management and Organizational development or combination of relevant education and experience
  • CHRP or equivalent designation preferred
  • 5 to 7 years progressive HR generalist and management experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
  • Extensive knowledge and experience on HRIS
  • Superior judgment across a broad spectrum of HR functions and issues
  • Knowledge of all current and relevant employment legislation required
  • In-depth knowledge of the settlement sector, its funding environment, and operational issues and opportunities
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in strategic planning and the planning enterprise wide initiatives
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing and supporting quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and attract opportunities for service expansion through additional funding and partnership building
  • Experience in working in a very diverse, multi-cultural workplace and a strong understanding of building and sustaining a successful, respectful, inclusive and productive work environment
  • Successful track record of relationship building with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Superior conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • Experience in successfully managing in a geographically dispersed organization with a demonstrated commitment to consistency, equity and transparency
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure to meet simultaneously occurring deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and act quickly in ambiguous situations
  • Motivated self-starter who also works well in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, organization, planning and implementation skills
  • Strong project management, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to operate proficiently with Microsoft Office and web-based applications is required
  • Superior communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout the GTA is required.

This is a Full-time Ongoing Position
Hours: 35 per week, including evenings, weekends and overtime hours as required.
Compensation: Competitive compensation including group health benefits and RSP contribution
Location: Toronto (Scarborough), with frequent travel to CCS locations throughout the GTA
