Position Summary:

Under the general guidance of the Lead Early Childhood Educator, the incumbent will assist in the implementation of the Childminding program.

Responsibilities and Duties: (but not limited to)

* Provide a safe and positive environment for children, maintaining a client-centered approach
* Organize and provide age-appropriate activities and routines for children in different age-groups
* Provide activities for school age children when they are in the program
* Be ready to accept children at the start of program, and supervise their departure
* Check children for injuries or illness as they arrive
* Ensure the room is set-up appropriately and that preparations are complete prior to the children’s arrival
* Demonstrate in practice a good understanding of children’s growth and development
* Monitor children’s behavior with each other and intervene as needed
* Monitor all entrances and exits at all times and ensure that children are always supervised
* Participate in monthly fire drills
* Assist LINC parents and children during field trips
* Behave appropriately with the children, individually and in groups
* Respond sensitively to the cultural heritage, values and individual experiences of children
* Must be available to report to any Indus LINC site and on any given day between Monday and Friday during program hours (9:00am – 3.30pm)

Qualifications and Skills:

* Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and experience in a childcare setting
* Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators Ontario; RECE certificate is required
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with other childminding staff
* Strong sensitivity to working with children from diverse backgrounds
* Strong attention to detail and flexible to deal with changing demands of the job
* Understanding of settlement issues and experience working in a multi-cultural environment
* Fluency in a second language is an asset
* Ability to work a variety of shifts and from any one of the agency’s sites
* Successful candidates must provide a current CPR and First Aid Certification, up-to-date immunization records including current Tetanus documentation, TB clearance certificate and a satisfactory Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Screening prior to commencing employment
* It is a condition of employment that employees provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start date of employment. Applicants who have appropriate written proof of a medical reason, or a reason pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code, for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may provide such documentation to the Human Resources department. Such situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis in compliance with Indus' legal obligations.
