Program Overview – Employment Solutions, Community Programs

Family Finance & Employment Supports helps to support youth, adults, newcomers, and internationally trained individuals in their search for employment. We offer a range of services needed to conduct an effective job search, including one-on-one employment advising, job development, workshops, and access to computers and fax machines. Our dedicated staff work with program participants every step of the way as they chart their job search strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine service suitability, gather profile information from clients, and determine if the services and supports available through the Employment Ontario (EO) program can make clients competitively employable, and refer those for whom these services are not appropriate to other supports in the community
  • Provide supportive career exploration and advising services through individual and group work
  • Assist clients to identify their own interests, aptitudes, transferable skills, qualifications, strengths, and barriers to employment/education, and gain increased insights about possible career choices and options, including administering and interpreting career exploration tools and testing
  • Develop, together with clients, an action plan with individual short- and long-term goals, along with clearly articulated steps and strategies towards achieving these goals
  • Work with clients to ensure they have a strong résumé and cover letter
  • Assist clients in accessing employment supports such as childcare, transportation to work, work supplies/equipment, etc.
  • Assist with advocacy issues and referrals to community resources when necessary
  • Plan and deliver employment and labour market information workshops and workplace orientation to assist clients to develop job search skills and strategies, along with employment skills required to meet the expectations of work, education, and/or training
  • Refer clients to on-the-job training, competitive employment, training, internships, mentoring, or other support services when appropriate
  • Perform follow-up with clients, after exiting the program, to ascertain progress and any further supports required
  • Maintain up-to-date case notes, progress reports, and client files with clear rationale for methods and interventions used, in accordance with the program requirements in order to meet
  • "Documentation Quality Standards," and carry out accurate and timely data entry to both WoodGreen's internal database and the Employment Ontario Information System (EOIS)

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Social Work, Sociology, Human Resources, or related field of study)
  • College Diploma, specializing in Career Counselling, considered a valued asset
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience with Employment Ontario program
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of pre-employment supports methods, re-training opportunities, and labour market information and resources
  • Experience working in intensive target-driven programs with the ability to deliver on agreed upon outcomes

  • Demonstrated facility and skills using and interpreting career assessment and diagnostic tools
  • Proven experience working with job seekers (Youth, Newcomers, ITIs, OW, EI, and ODSP recipients, individuals experiencing long term unemployment, differently abled individuals, and those with multiple barriers to employment)
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Proven facilitation skills
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows environment (MS Office Suite), as well as knowledge of computerized career and job search tools (Career Cruising, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Experience with EOIS-CaMS
  • Second Career experience is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of LinkedIn Learning/Lynda.com and expertise in a variety of social media platforms
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication/presentation skills
  • Current knowledge of job search strategies and techniques
