Job Summary:

The Employment Counsellor/Mentoring Coach is responsible for the case management and provision of Employment Ontario Services to assist clients in developing career options and finding employment opportunities as well as facilitating mentor matches under The Mentoring Partnership (TMP).


  • Provide culturally sensitive employment services including intake assistance, one-on-one and group employment counselling, career exploration, job search training and support, and referrals
  • Conduct vocational assessments and assist clients with work action plans to re-enter the labour market
  • Provide training and assistance in resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies
  • Screen mentees and mentors and facilitate appropriate matches as per TRIEC Service Standards
  • Utilize TRIEC Database for finding mentors and recommend matches, and generate manual matches when necessary
  • Deliver orientation sessions to mentors and mentees at DBNC and also at offices of TMP corporate partners
  • Provide coaching in life skills
  • Provide mentoring and coaching during the job search process, support mentors and mentees throughout the mentoring process
  • Work with those qualifying for funded training e.g. Second Career
  • Participate in the design and development of employment related workshops and seminars
  • Facilitate employment workshops, job fairs, employer sessions, networking events
  • Maintain an active caseload and conduct regular follow-ups make appropriate referrals to services in Peel
  • Maintain professional and accurate client files
  • Advocate on behalf of the clients
  • Build positive relationships with agency and community partners
  • Assist in the design of promotional materials and market the program


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Social Sciences or Employment/Career Counselling
  • Between 1 to 3 years of work experience as a mentoring coach and in employment related case management
  • Thorough knowledge of all facets of job search strategies and career development and counselling including an understanding of current labour market trends and resources, training programs and employment resources
  • Ability to administer and interpret Level B tests/psychological instruments, Personality Dimensions, MBTI, COP System or Life Skills Certification would be an asset
  • Experience with Employment Ontario programs, EOIS –CaMS, Second Career, youth programs, an asset
  • Excellent facilitation, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, networking and motivational skills
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with diverse groups– including adults, youth, newcomers to Canada or groups with specialized needs
  • Experience in the delivery of pre employment workshops
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Internet/E-mail
  • Knowledge of local resources
