Immigrants Working Centre requires an Employment Specialist.


  • Provide one-on-one and group employment support for WorkLINC participants and graduates, and other employment-seeking newcomers as required.
  • Work one-on-one with participants to develop individualized plans for labour market entry that include key areas for soft and direct skills development, actions and timelines
  • Identify sector and job-specific soft skills for WorkLINC participants, develop and deliver workshops and resources to support skills development in these areas
  • Identify meaningful, experiential opportunities for workplace visits with employers actively hiring in each WorkLINC Industry; accompany WorkLINC participants on experiential workplace visits as needed
  • Maintain electronic records of participation and relevant program statistics, including case files for families accessing services; and electronic records of employers and workplaces contacted
  • Participate in Employment Services team meetings to gain across-the-board collaboration to engage industries and promote the program
  • Participate actively in the activities self-direction of the site’s front-line team


  • Post-Secondary degree in Social Sciences or a related field
  • Certificate from a Career Practitioner program or a combination of 4 years direct experience in employment counselling and job development
  • Advanced labour market knowledge, including demonstrated knowledge about the trades in Canada; industry practices; workforce needs of employers in construction and manufacturing sectors
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret collected information to assist in targeting the most suitable employment based on clients’ experience, education, and existing labour market factors
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, able to communicate confidently and effectively with clients and employers
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Awareness of cultural diversity & sensitivity, anti-racism and anti-oppression theory
  • Fluency in Arabic is preferred
