About Newcomer Centre of Peel:
Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP) is a nonprofit, charitable, multi-service agency that assists the entire newcomer family in achieving settlement. With experience and expertise in English language training; employability and business start-up and comprehensive settlement services including programs for women, children, youth, and seniors; NCP offers a dedication to service quality. Through innovation and a progressive attitude, we leverage the broad experience of our staff and community partners to overcome settlement barriers.
About the Rural Employment Initiative (REI):
REI will aid newcomers to Canada in finding jobs and residence in rural communities and will increase economic prosperity as a whole. REI will streamline immigrant settlement by assisting rural communities in developing and implementing newcomer attraction and retention strategies and facilitating the movement of immigrant talent from the overburdened metropolitan GTA to the rural economies. This will be accomplished through a partnership between the Community Futures Ontario network and the Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP).
Job Finding
1. Conduct one-on-one intake and assessments to assist all clients in determining employment needs and their fit to rural employment, including: identifying interests and abilities, education and employment status, language proficiency, clarifying employment opportunities, identifying steps to becoming employable by determining most appropriate employment, education/vocational/training needs
2. Research and develop strategies to engage rural Ontario small and medium sized employers (SMEs) to identify job opportunities and coordinate flow of information
3. Develop relationships with rural SMEs to promote integration of skilled immigrants into employment vacancies and facilitate retention of jobs
4. Build rural employment partnership with GTA community agencies
5. Maintain a computerized client/employer database system
6. Document, input and record all communications with clients and employers ensuring proper diligence as provided for case management purposes
7. Provide program participants employment consultation including labour market information, interview skills, resume writing skills, and necessary marketing tools to assist and empower them in successfully obtaining rural employment
8. Liase with both client and host employer while assisting with different aspects of rural placement
9. Work collaboratively with NCP teams including Labour Market Access staff and administrators, to ensure and support the successful rural relocation of clients
10. Monitor clients when matched with job opportunities and work with both the host companies/employers and program participants to address any concerns that may arise
11. Explore new resources to stay current on rural economies and job opportunities
12. Create action plans and assist clients with follow-through
13. Maintain accurate and specific case notes on activity of each client as per ELT case management system
14. Have keen knowledge of all industry best practices in multiple professions and disciplines
Outreach
1. Liaise with the Communication Specialist for marketing materials
2. Contribute constructively to program outreach efforts and projects
3. Conduct Employer Outreach by attending networking events, visiting host companies/employers, while developing new lines of communication with new employers
4. Travel to and from host employer to acquire new business and maintain current business
Administration
1. Research and collect up-to-date labour market information and communicate findings to staff and clients
2. Collect client employment data and follow-up results
3. Contribute to reports to the Labour Market Access Program Manager and funders
4. Work with agencies coordinating joint events, activities and outreach initiatives
5. Participate in RFP (request for proposals)
6. Attend and proactively participate in internal and external professional development events and staff meetings as required
7. Be familiar with and support other departments and their functions
8. Assist all REI staff as required
9. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
1. Certificate course in Job Development or University degree in either human resources, business administration, marketing, public administration or business communication along with minimum 3 years of experience in job development
2. Expertise in working effectively with various job seekers, including newcomers and internationally trained professionals
3. Knowledge of rural labour market issues and trends as they relate to the geographic, demographic and economic aspects of the various rural economies
4. Knowledge of the social services/immigrant-serving sector of Peel Region/GTA
5. Capability to handle multiple priorities with ease and professionalism; able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
6. Intermediate computer skills and ability to work in a computerized environment using MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
7. Excellent English communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
8. Strong interpersonal, organizational and people skills
9. Sensitivity to and understanding of immigrant issues
10. Team player and being able to build and maintain positive relationships with employers, clients and all NCP staff
11. Positive attitude toward change
12. Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are required.
