  • Conduct an initial intake interview and complete an assessment to determine suitability and readiness to participate in a pre employment program
  • Identify barriers to employment & develop individualized employment plans with youth job seekers. Support, monitor & adjust plans throughout & follow-up with youth through to exit
  • Conduct regular employment counselling sessions with all participants, adjusting their employment plans to meet their needs
  • Administer & interpret employability tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes & abilities of clients (if required)
  • Provide case management and follow up for all youth participating in the program;
  • Provide information and referral to other services/agencies regarding housing, food, addictions, health, legal aid, income, training;
  • Organize, facilitate and evaluate group sessions to engage vulnerable youth and develop their soft skills and employment securing skills through a variety of activities and workshops
  • Introduce the youth to a range of employment, training and educational options and introduce various workplace expectations such as time management skills that will be under review during the remainder of the intervention
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to contribute to a monthly statistical report, daily case notes and the management of the participant files
  • Develop and enhance strong partnerships with referral sources across the city and engage in offsite outreach activities as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • University or College Degree from Community worker, Social Service worker or Child and Youth worker programs;
  • 3 years of direct experience in client assessment, solution focused counselling, case management, crisis intervention and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience providing evidence informed interventions with youth with a mental health and substance misuse issues (trauma-informed philosophy of service)
  • Solid understanding of barriers facing disadvantaged youth including: racism, discrimination, addictions, poverty, homelessness, mental health issues, learning disabilities, limited education or criminal background
  • Group facilitation and life skills coaching skills, excellent problem solving skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with various job seekers, including youth with barriers to employment
  • knowledge of the resources available in Toronto serving this population
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal and presentation skills
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer satisfaction skills
  • Possess and maintains a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Must have a car for business travel
