  • Develop and strengthen connections with local employers in order to increase employment opportunities for newcomers and support job retention, focusing on groups of industries aligned with participants’ skills and work experience
  • Gain insight into industry and employer-specific training needs and hiring practices in order to enrich IWC’s skills-development programming and tailor it to workforce needs
  • Market IWC’s job-seeking clients to hiring employers, with a focus on clients seeking to enter the manufacturing industry and the trades
  • Represent IWC in cross-sectoral consultation to develop Hamilton’s Community Benefits plan in order to secure opportunities for newcomers to Canada in the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, and other projects as required
  • Facilitate negotiation of employment relationships on behalf of clients; identify those in need for additional support with individuals and or the employer as appropriate
  • Develop support plans for the employer as appropriate; collaborate with Employment Specialists to develop support plans for clients aimed at maintaining employment
  • Maintain electronic database of contacts, job development outcomes and other relevant program statistics as directed


  • 4-year degree in Industrial Relations, Labour Studies, Human Resources or a related field (or equivalent applicable experience
  • Direct experience with and demonstrated understanding of the training and labour needs of employers in the construction and manufacturing sectors, and knowledge of industry practices
  • Advanced knowledge of the trades in Canada, including but not limited to processes of apprenticeship and registration; training; key employers; and labour market trends and outlook
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, regional and provincial labour market initiatives
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret collected information to assist in targeting the most suitable employment based on clients’ experience, education, and existing labour market factors
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, able to communicate confidently and effectively with employers
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Awareness of cultural diversity & sensitivity, anti-racism and anti-oppression theory
  • Fluency in Arabic is an asset.
