Summary:

Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking a Newcomer Mental Health Counsellor to provide culturally competent clinical mental health services to newcomers in Peel Region. The program also works to increase community and service providers’ awareness on newcomers’ mental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally responsive services and support to newcomers with a broad range of mental health issues
  • Provide mental health assessment and short term individual, couple and family counselling
  • Provide therapeutic group services for program clients as required
  • Provide case management by coordinating with the client’s existing support services to ensure optimum care within the boundaries of confidentiality and disclosure
  • Delivering information workshops on mental health related topics
  • Making appropriate referrals to specialized services as required
  • Provide crisis intervention for emergency situations
  • Conduct community outreach activities to increase awareness of newcomer mental health issues and services
  • Develop and implements process for evaluation of program services and outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and organized client records, prepares regular documents and activity reports
  • Work with the Newcomer Mental Health Steering Committee to identify program needs and opportunities
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Masters level education in Social Work, social sciences or related health discipline
  • Membership in good standing in related provincial regulatory association
  • Excellent oral and written English skills; Written and verbal fluency in Arabic is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing mental health clinical counselling
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally responsive service delivery within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative, judgement and problem solving ability
  • Ability to excel working as part of a team and independently
  • Demonstrated ability in using discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel to various locations in the Peel region

This is a full-time position
Hours: 35 hrs/week; including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime as required
Salary: $61,825.40 annual salary plus benefits
Location: Mississauga and Brampton
