Summary

SEPT Settlement Worker – Dari, Farsi/Pashto Speaking
(PT, contract until March 2024)

CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking a Settlement Worker in school program to provide settlement services while located in designated schools in Scarborough.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomers in a school setting
• Assist newcomers to develop personalized settlement plans
• Provide case management and supportive follow-up
• Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services in the community
• Organize, plan and implement group sessions for newcomers and school personnel
• Plan service delivery in cooperation with the host school and SEPT Program Manager
• Work closely with school personnel in planning and delivering joint services
• Participate in regular program, team and regional meetings
• Develop and implement community outreach plans to promote CCS programs and services
• Maintain and update all client information in a customized database
• Prepare and submit timely statistical and progress reports as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Settlement Counselling diploma or equivalent training in the human services field
• Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors with a focus on newcomers, particularly youth
• Effective communication Cross-cultural communication skills to work with diverse groups of youth, parents, school staff, other agencies and the public
• Understanding of the Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School board systems
• Knowledge of community resources available in Scarborough
• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
• Strong presentation / group facilitation skills with demonstrated experience in facilitating virtual group sessions
• Ability to work independently in an off-site, multi-location work environment with minimum supervision while ensuring regular communication with SEPT Program Managers and team
• Demonstrated interview, assessment, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to build and maintain strong, ongoing partnerships with schools and community agencies
• Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy in data collection and reporting
• Proficient in the use of MS Office environment, virtual platforms and social media tools
• Excellent oral and written skills in English, Dari, Farsi and Pashto required
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
• A clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening-Police Reference Check Possession of a valid Ontario
• Driver’s License and access to a car is an asset

Location: Scarborough
Hours: 21 hrs/week; occasional evenings and weekends as required (4 weeks mandatory unpaid leave)
Compensation: $30,000 - $31,500annual salary plus benefits(after completion of the required probationary period)
