Summary:

Catholic Crosscultural Services - CCS is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status. CCS is seeking one full-time (35 hours/week) Settlement Worker in school programs (Tamil speaking) to provide settlement services while located in designated schools in Scarborough.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomers in a school setting
  • Assist newcomers to develop personalized settlement plans
  • Provide case management and supportive follow-up
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services in the community
  • Organize, plan and implement group sessions for newcomers and school personnel
  • Plan service delivery in cooperation with the host school and SEPT Program Manager
  • Work closely with school personnel in planning and delivering joint services
  • Participate in regular program, team and regional meetings
  • Develop and implement community outreach plans to promote CCS programs and services
  • Maintain and update all client information in a customized database
  • Prepare and submit timely statistical and progress reports as required

Qualifications:

  • Settlement Counselling diploma or equivalent training in the human services field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors
  • A clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening-Police Reference Check
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
  • Demonstrated crosscultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, school staff, other agencies and the public
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision while ensuring regular communication with the Manager
  • Demonstrated interview, assessment, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of community resources available in Scarborough as well as Toronto Catholic District School Board and Toronto District School Board systems
  • Ability to work effectively building and maintaining partnerships with other service providers
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a large, multi-location team
  • Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of accuracy in data collection and reporting
  • Ability to work productively in an MS Office environment
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and Tamil is required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a car is an asset

Hours: 35 hrs/week; occasional evenings and weekends as required (4 weeks mandatory unpaid leave)
Salary: $48,000 - $50,000 annual salary plus benefits (after completion of the required probationary period)
