About The Women’s Centre The primary focus of The Women’s Centre of Halton is to support women going through crisis, distress and transition. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of women’s issues with a demonstrative working anti-oppression and anti-racism framework.

The Program:

The objective of the Project is to address the multiple barriers to labour market entry faced by visible minority newcomer women in the Region of Halton. The project is designed to provide intensive support to identify and break down complex barriers, through activities that will explore employment/career options, build employment-related life skills and build digital literacy.


  • Deliver direct services in terms of counseling and support that addresses the new immigrant’s employment, educational and settlement needs
  • Based on initial contact, complete intake form and enter applicable data into the data base
  • Provides comprehensive information on orientation to Canadian society as well as conducting needs assessments to determine client’s needs and eligibility
  • Develop customized and individual Settlement Paths, goal setting, to build skills and break down barriers to service and integration
  • Conduct program promotion sessions to recruit volunteers and to promote public awareness of the program and settlement issues
  • Organize and support group activities, workshops
  • Provide information and referral to internal and external programs
  • Maintain and expand client’s base through outreach
  • Developing of outreach materials and promoting community networks to link newcomers
  • Maintain strong working relations with partner agencies
  • Effectively track and provide accurate reporting
  • Achieve the targets set


  • Post-secondary education in the human services field (social work, child and youth work, education, Psychology ,etc.) or equivalent work experience within a culturally diverse community-based setting
  • 3+ years of experience working as a Settlement Worker/ Life Skills Coach in a non-profit or community-based agency with a focus on settlement and employment issues or women’s services
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience program planning, developing work plans, priority setting, keeping track of expenses, writing reports to funders, monitoring and evaluation
  • Strong leadership, relationship-building, and networking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of challenges in the newcomer and refugee communities in Canada
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including strong report writing skills
  • Ability to work with newcomer communities (Fluency in Arabic, Mandarin, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi or Spanish Languages)
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills

  • Must be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, problem solve and make sound decisions
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to effectively motivate volunteers and lead small groups workshops to achieve objectives
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and unexpected issues
  • Skilled at issues management – has an ability to identify, report and resolve issues on a timely basis – highly disciplined with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on a variety of commitments and deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite of products and database management
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends or evening
  • Must have a valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Police Clearance Required
  • Must have a strong knowledge of the community and supports available to newcomer women
