Settlement Worker (Arabic-Speaking)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate, timely settlement integration support services
  • Offer crisis counseling to clients and their families as needed
  • Conduct psycho-social and personal needs assessments of clients
  • Help clients in completing government and other formal applications
  • Assist clients with interpreting and translating documents
  • Offer information/referrals regarding other support programs/services
  • Enter client profiles and services in government and agency database systems
  • Compile and submit accurate monthly reports on client profiles and services
  • Assist clients in finding affordable and accessible housing
  • Offer information and referrals to help clients with labor market access
  • Liaise with other settlement workers, agencies, cultural groups in support of clients

Qualifications:

  • Social Work Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Services with training/experience in crisis counseling
  • Sensitivity to the experiences, personal challenges regarding the Syrian/Arabic newcomers
  • Experience in providing settlement/community support services
  • Current knowledge of government and other local support services, programs
  • Well developed inter-personal, communication and organizational skills
  • Team player with strong problem solving skills and ability to work flexible hours
  • Can work well in a multicultural and anti-oppressive environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, working online and with database systems
  • Fluency in English and Arabic

This is a contract full-time position to March 31, 2017, with possibility of extension
