The Parkdale Intercultural Association (PIA) is a Not-for-Profit, CRA-Registered Charitable organization established to provide settlement services to newcomer immigrants and refugees in the Parkdale community.
Job Summary:
The Settlement Worker is responsible for direct front-line settlement service delivery, assisting Ukrainian newcomers and refugees with CUAET status. The applicant will report directly to the manager of the settlement program. This is a full-time position with a contract till April 2024.
Responsibilities:
- Provide information and support to newcomers and their families through individual assessments and organization of group sessions, support groups, or workshops on various settlement issues.
- Organize support groups to enhance their life skills, coping mechanisms, social support, and emotional well-being.
- Provide case management service and supportive counseling to newcomers and their families with complex needs.
- Facilitate access to needed services and resources where language barriers exist by providing interpretation or translation.
- Provide needs assessment, information, and orientation services to newcomers to facilitate adjustment in the community and the settlement process.
- Information and referrals service that supports newcomers to learn about and understand Canadian systems in their settlement process.
- Facilitate access to needed referrals and appropriate services in the community.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely statistical and progress reports as required; Establish and maintain excellent working relationships and communication with the settlement team, service users, and partner organizations.
- Carry out any other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time by the manager.
- Provide settlement service to newcomers other than the focussed CUAET status service users from Ukraine when required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- University or College degree in Social Services or equivalency in work and experience.
- Experience in community outreach and counseling.
- Strong program planning awareness and case management skills.
- Evidence of ability to work in a multicultural, multiracial setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, high motivation, initiative, and flexibility.
- Good understanding of the multicultural and immigrant community needs within Metro Toronto and amongst Settlement agencies serving newcomers.
- Good knowledge of community service resources, Federal and Provincial government policies, and programs for Settlement service providers.
- Working familiarity and knowledge of database and word processing software.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and teamwork.
- Understanding of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies and services, working with iCARE reporting and OCMS Database system.
- Ukrainian speaking ability required.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
