Position Summary:

The Skills Trainer is responsible for developing, facilitating and maintaining the skills training programs, including outcome reporting.


The Skills Training Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Planning, developing, facilitating, evaluating and overseeing all Skills Training and Life Skills Program activities in cooperation with the Coordinator of Employment Programs
  • Sourcing, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers/ speakers for each planned session
  • Conducting outreach, research, intake, coordination, evaluation for all Skills Training sessions
  • Assisting clients in training needs, identification of skills and/or barriers and the establishment of pathways to reach desired goals
  • Organizing and delivering additional workshops, events and/or meetings according to client demand/feedback and programs goals
  • Maintaining awareness of events that would support clients’ understanding and access to skills training options
  • Maintaining program budget, supplies/materials, client files, program records and generating reports and statistical information according to program requirements including analysis of emerging needs
  • Collaborating with other programs and agencies in the design and delivery of training programs
  • Referring clients to appropriate community services/programs and/or employers/businesses
  • Advocating on behalf of clients to employers, businesses and/or community services
  • Providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all clients
  • Developing and implementing evaluation systems that measure client outcomes and the effectiveness of services including outreach strategies
  • Evaluating and making recommendations for program delivery improvements


  • Post-secondary education (preference given to education related to one of the following: teaching, training, facilitation, adult education, social services, business or marketing or a combination of such)
  • Must have experience in training and/or facilitating
  • Cross-cultural competence with the ability to outreach effectively to newcomer communities
  • Familiarity with issues affecting newcomers and experience in working with diverse communities
  • Strong knowledge in the areas of skills development, community services/programs, employer and business community
  • Proven experience in organizing events/workshops/meetings
  • Ability to respond quickly to evolving priorities and new technology
  • Commitment to handle confidential material and matters according to the agency’s policies
  • Exceptional computer application skills-Microsoft Office, Internet and email
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing, fluency in a second language an asset
  • Demonstrated skill in program management and staff supervision
  • Self-directed, self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse and dynamic workplace
  • Excellent telephone manner and familiarity with professional office systems and procedures
  • Ability to work outside of regular hours/days depending on programming needs
  • Ability to travel to attend conferences, meetings, etc.
  • May occasionally be required to perform duties not set forth in the job description

This is a full-time position
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Expected start date is September 05, 2017
