Eligible candidates are invited to apply for the Summer Camp Counsellor position with Malton Neighbourhood Services (MNS). As a Camp Counsellor, you would organize, implement and supervise recreational summer activities for children ages 6-12.


  • Plan, prepare, implement and supervise a daily plan of recreational and fun activities that increase interaction and positive relations among children from diverse cultures
  • Plan, organize and participate in physical, recreational, and creative activities
  • Ability to work in outdoor and indoor environments, and to stand within pool to monitor children
  • Monitor records of attendance and registration
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for campers, using a proactive approach
  • Promote learning and cultural sensitivity among campers
  • Act as a positive role model, support, and mentor to children


  • Experience/skill in all or one of the following: sports & recreation, arts & crafts, dance, drama, music
  • Leadership experience or skills, particularly with children aged 6-12 years
  • Ability to think quickly and work well under pressure in a fast-paced, active environment
  • Must be able to work in outdoor/indoor environments, and to stand within pool to monitor children
  • Knowledge/experience with the Malton community an asset; or other diverse communities
  • Effective English communication skills; an asset if can speak another language, including Arabic
  • Ability to engage with children, using a patient, caring and positive approach
  • Ability to plan and organize fun and creative program plans for the campers
  • Ability to work individually as well as in a team, within a multicultural, diverse environment
  • Counselors must be available to work the entire 8-week duration

This is a full-time contract position

Schedule: 35 hour per week from June 26 to August 18, 2017
Rate of pay: $11.40 per hour

Please note: Applicants must be: between 17 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year; intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year; is currently enrolled in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program; is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and is legally entitled to work in Canada.

Police records check (Vulnerable Sector Screening) must be provided upon hire.
