Summary:

Malton Neighbourhood Services (MNS) is seeking a full-time Syrian Settlement Counselor to provide settlement orientation services and crisis counseling support to the Syrian community. The successful candidate must be able to offer crisis counseling services to mothers and families who have experienced personal abuse or trauma. The services will be delivered from our Brampton and Mississauga/ Malton offices and may include itinerant services.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer compassionate, timely Canadian orientation settlement services to Syrian community
  • Provide ongoing crisis counseling to women and their families as needed
  • Conduct personal needs assessments and psycho-social evaluations of clients
  • Help clients in completing government, other settlement related applications
  • Offer referral and other supports for clients seeking employment and housing
  • Offer information/referrals regarding other support programs/services
  • Compile and submit accurate monthly reports on client profiles and services
  • Liaise with other settlement and service agencies in support of clients
  • Enter client and service data in government and agency database systems

Qualifications:

  • Social Work Degree, Community College Diploma with training/experience in crisis counseling
  • Experience working with women/ children who have experienced abuse or trauma
  • Sensitivity to the experiences, personal challenges facing Syrian newcomers
  • Experience with Arabic communities and in providing settlement/community services
  • Current knowledge of government and other local support services, programs
  • Self-starter with well-developed inter-personal, communication and organizational skills
  • Team player with strong problem solving skills and able to work flexible hours
  • Able to work in a multicultural setting and in anti-oppressive framework
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, working online and with database systems
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a requirement

This is a Full-Time Contract Position from Hire Date to September 30, 2017.
