Summary:

YWCA JUMP Etobicoke is a settlement program with a focus on Labour Market Access, which targets new immigrant women in North and Central Etobicoke. The program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and addresses the adaptation, settlement and integration needs of newcomer women through a comprehensive settlement centre model including: settlement information and referrals; satellite workshops; settlement series workshops; case management; employment related services; and community building. Care for newcomer children support services, are also offered.

The Trainer/Learning Specialist position as part of JUMP Etobicoke team researches, designs and delivers a variety of personal, professional, and skills building courses and workshops. The position reviews, writes and edits existing training material and provides final edits to new training curricula ensuring printing readiness. 

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager of YWCA JUMP Etobicoke, the Trainer/Learning Specialist responsibilities include:

  • Works with the Program Manager in identifying areas for program development, growth and expansion
  • leads the team into creating new digital training services and distance learning programs
  • researches skills training trends and leads the development of new training material and learning programs 
  • stays abreast of developments and trends in areas of settlement services, skills training, facilitation and adult education principles geared to newcomer and refugee women
  • responsible for final edits of all training material and producing the learner’s workbooks and trainer’s curriculum ready for printing
  • conducts training assessments and surveys specific to newcomer and refugee women’s needs and produces statistical and analytical reports on results
  • advises the manager on available distance learning software and trends for one-on-one services and group learning
  • delivers personal and professional growth workshops (such as Cashier, Retail & Customer Service, Food Handling, Essential Skills for Employment, Life Skills, Communications for the Workplace, Entrepreneurial Skills for Home Based Business and Clerical Office Administration) in collaboration with Settlement Counsellors, other trainers and facilitators
  • participates in proposal writing, developing promotional material, writing newsletters articles and contributing to producing reports as needed
  • assists with marketing events, including presenting at conferences and attending displaying tables at trade shows
  • able to work independently on-site and off-site locations and apply considerable judgment and critical analysis in unpredictable situations to ensure successful outcomes are achieved

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge in a specialized discipline normally acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in areas of a) adult education or a related discipline, and b) English, Communications, or a related discipline, c) Training and Development, or related discipline
  • 3-5 years directly related work experience
  • demonstrated understanding of group learning theories and practices at an advanced level
  • superior group facilitation and presentation skills
  • advance command of training & presentations’ technology and software programs
  • professional writing and editing skills
  • excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Life Skills Coaching and Personality Dimensions training assets are assets
  • CTDP-Certified Training and Development Professional credential an asset
  • knowledge and experience in career counselling theory and practice is an asset
  • access to a motor vehicle and valid driver’s license

Must be available to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
This is a 35 hours per week (contract) position for three months, with the potential for extension to 12 months
The hours of work for this position are 35 hours per week
The hourly rate for this position is $25.61 per hour
Contract Start date:  January 21, 2019
Contract End date:  March 31, 2019
