The Youth Worker delivers the Wintegration After-school Program in the Mabelle community, from 2:30pm to 6:30pm on three weekdays per week. Program participants are 6-13 years of age and the Youth Worker co-operates with their parents, the majority of whom are Somali-speaking. The Youth Worker collaborates with another colleague in a similar position to deliver the program, and reports to the Manager, Community Services. This is a Seasonal position and the Youth Worker will be eligible for recall in September 2020.

  • Plan and carry out recreational, athletic, fitness and sports activities
  • Assemble supplies and sports and game equipment
  • Instruct groups and individuals in arts, crafts and similar activities
  • Attend to clients with special needs
  • Provide lifestyle awareness information
  • Monitor recreational, sports or fitness activities to ensure safety and provide emergency or first aid assistance when required
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Assist with co-ordination of special events
  • Schedule activities, keep logs, maintain records and prepare reports
  • Supervise volunteers and placement students
  • Participate in training and agency-wide activities as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a field relevant to human services or a combination of equivalent education and or experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in delivering children’s programs that include physical activity, nutrition education and homework help
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English language
  • Strong oral communication skills in Somali language
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (police check)


  • Group facilitation skills
  • First Aid training
  • High Five training
  • Knowledge of community-based resources in Toronto
  • Solid knowledge and experience working within an Anti-Oppressive framework and understanding of anti-racism and anti-discrimination practices

This is Part-time Bargaining Unit Position
Hours: 12 hours/week
Start date: September 18, 2019
End date: June 20, 2020
Salary: $21.86 - $23.22 per hour
