Consulting with Canadians to improve EI support for parents and caregivers.

Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, announced an online consultation on providing more flexible EI maternity and parental benefits, as well as more inclusive benefits for caregivers.

October 6, 2016 - Employment and Social Development Canada The Employment Insurance (EI) program is helping Canadians during major milestones throughout their working life. In order to improve the EI program so that it is better aligned with today’s labour market realities and the needs of workers and employers , the Government of Canada is launching an online consultation with between October 6 and November 4, 2016, to gather their thoughts on benefits/ additional support, through the ESDC Consultations portal.
The Government is looking to all Canadians, particularly parents and caregivers, to join the conversation and share their views and experiences. This is an opportunity for Canadians to share their thoughts on the sort of adjustments that are required to improve Canada’s EI maternity, parental and caregiving benefits programs.
