End of the Temporary Public Policy to Sponsor Syrian and Iraqi Refugees by Groups of Five and Community Sponsors

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has now reached the number of private sponsorship applications for Syrian and Iraqi refugees allowed under the public policy. Applications received after reaching the limit will be returned.

IRCC is taking steps to reduce the number of pending applications for private sponsors with the goal of significantly reduce long wait times.

IRCC also plans to continue to bring many more refugees to Canada than in the past. In 2017, Canada will welcome 25 000 refugees from overseas which includes 16 000 privately sponsored refugees.
