CLEO Webinar: Rights of long-term care residents and their families during COVID-19

Ontario’s long-term care (LTC) homes provide support, housing and care for thousands of seniors, people with disabilities and their families every year. LTC homes were hit hard during COVID-19 with about 2/3 of the deaths in Ontario occurring in LTC. This crisis has raised new questions and concerns about the rights and treatment of residents and their families.

This webinar will provide up-to-date information on the restrictions on residents and visitors in LTC, the rights of residents when in lock-down or isolation, and rights of residents to have visitors. Legal experts will also discuss the complex issues of consent and capacity within LTC homes. Resources for frontline workers will be shared with participants.

Speakers:

  • Jane Meadus, barrister and solicitor and institutional advocate, Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE)
  • Madeleine Hébert, Elder/Seniors Lawyer, Avocate pour les personnes agées, Advocacy North – Soutien Juridique Nord, Sudbury Community Legal Clinic
