Post-separation Violence and Family Law and Parenting

This webinar will explore how intimate partner violence can continue after separation, including common tactics of abuse and the impact of trauma on survivors and children. Participants will receive a practical overview of key family law concepts such as parenting time and plans, shared decision-making, habitual residence, and the best interests of the child test. The webinar will also address gathering evidence of abuse and navigating common challenges, including parenting disputes, parental alienation claims, motions to change, and enforcing parenting orders. This session is designed to strengthen understanding and provide practical tools for supporting families affected by post-separation violence.

Learning Goals:

  • Understand how intimate partner violence can continue after separation, including common tactics of post-separation abuse and their impact on survivors and children.
  • Identify key family law concepts related to parenting — including parenting time, decision-making responsibility, habitual residence, and the best interests of the child test.
