The Newcomer Youth Community Engagement (NYCE) program supports newcomer youth in building confidence, connections, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging in their communities.
This position is welcoming to individuals who are new to the field, currently pursuing their education, or looking to gain meaningful experience in youth services and community development. As a NYCE Facilitator, you will:
- Build meaningful relationships with newcomer youth.

Job Summary
The NYCE Facilitator supports newcomer youth through engaging programs, workshops, outreach initiatives, and community activities that promote settlement, wellness, education, leadership, and social inclusion.
Working alongside youth, families, schools, and community partners, the successful candidate will help create safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces where newcomer youth can learn, connect, and thrive. The role also includes supporting day-to-day program administration and communication activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate engaging workshops, events, leadership opportunities, and community activities for newcomer youth.
- Build positive relationships that support youth development, participation, and belonging.
- Foster safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments for youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Encourage youth leadership, creativity, confidence, and personal growth.
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and internal teams to strengthen youth engagement.
- Support outreach initiatives, school presentations, and community events.
- Assist with social media promotion and program awareness activities.
- Maintain participant records, attendance, reports, and program documentation.
- Monitor and respond to program inquiries from youth, families, and community partners.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or have completed post-secondary studies in Child and Youth Care, Social Service Work, Community Development, Human Services, or a related field, or possess equivalent experience.
- Experience working, volunteering, mentoring, coaching, or supporting youth.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and creating safe spaces for youth.
- Ability to work flexible afternoon and evening hours as required.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
The following qualifications are considered assets and may be developed through experience and training:
- Knowledge of newcomer settlement experiences and services.
- Experience facilitating youth programs, workshops, or group activities.
- Additional language(s) besides English.
- Experience using CRM databases and data entry systems.
- Experience with Canva, social media, or community outreach.
- Knowledge of youth advocacy, mentorship, or harm reduction practices.
- Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED, ASIST, or Food Handler certifications.
