We are searching for a Supply LINC Instructors who will teach English to newcomer learners.

What you will be doing:

  • Teach a daily class in compliance with Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Design and provide professional, appropriate and motivational short and long-term lesson plans consistent with accepted teaching methods and the needs and level of the class
  • Create lesson plans that are outcome based and have identified measurement processes
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of students’ achievements and outcomes
  • Incorporate a variety of learning materials into lesson plans to meet different learning styles
  • Orient students to portfolios as a learning and assessment tool (PBLA)
  • Develop and maintain an anti-bias classroom atmosphere where participants feel welcome and interested in learning
  • Combine classroom teaching with computer instruction; apply ESL educational software
  • Ensure ongoing attendance and active participation of learners each day
  • Collaborate with other CCS staff to ensure LINC participants have access to the full suite of available settlement services
  • Complete administrative duties such as client registration and orientation, attendance records, monthly reports and statistical information as required

 

What are we looking for?

  • TESL Certificate from a recognized institution and ongoing membership with TESL Ontario
  • Experience teaching English as a Second Language to adults 
  • Prior knowledge and use of CLBs, LINC Curriculum Guidelines and PBLA
  • Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners
  • Demonstrated experience working with adults of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Computer skills with knowledge of ESL educational software, MS Word and Internet
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset

     

Location: 1200 Markham Rd and 2206 Eglinton Ave., Scarborough, ON

Compensation: $38.30 to $42.63 based on experience
