When we create our multilingual infographics and videos for newcomers, we put just as much care into translation as we do into writing and design. Many newcomers prefer learning in a language other than English or French, so translation is a key step requiring considerable time and effort.
Without an equitable approach to translation, we risk leaving out the linguistic communities that most need quality information. While we’d love to translate every piece into as many languages as possible, budget restrictions require critical decisions.
After years of navigating these challenges, we’re excited to introduce a new tool that we’re working on to make language selection more convenient and equitable.
This Welcoming Ottawa Week (WOW), we’re hosting an in-person event to show it off!
Join us for a sneak peek at the Language Matrix: an equity-based tool designed to guide your translation language choices.
Here’s what to expect:
- Insights from our research into equitable language selection
- A live demo of the language matrix tool
- Time to give your feedback and network with other people sharing multilingual information with newcomers
