The Public and Stakeholder Relations Coordinator strengthens public understanding of immigration through education initiatives and storytelling campaigns that highlight newcomer contributions and elevate their voices in public discourse.
Working within the Toronto Southwest Local Immigration Partnership (TSWLIP), the coordinator collaborates with partner service organizations to align messaging, develop compelling content, and amplify newcomer voices and contributions through coordinated public education and outreach efforts. The role advances community‑level campaigning that connects anti‑racism, anti‑immigrant stigma, and reconciliation, helping to build belonging and social cohesion across Toronto’s south‑west.
This is a non-union full-time position for a term of two years.
The successful candidate will work with the TSWLIP and be employed by COSTI.
DUTIES:
Campaign Development
- Support the planning and delivery of public facing campaigns that challenge anti-immigrant sentiment and promote welcoming communities.
- Coordinate campaign messaging, timelines, and content contributions across TSWLIP staff and partner organizations.
- Gather, shape, and amplify newcomer stories, lived experiences, and sector insights for use in campaigns, public education initiatives, and outreach materials.
- Contribute to narrative strategies that respond to emerging misinformation, public discourse, and community concerns.
Public Relations
- Contribute campaign aligned content for TSWLIP’s social media channels, ensuring messaging is timely, accessible, and evidence based.
- Draft and adapt public facing materials including campaign assets, briefs, presentations, toolkits, and digital content.
- Support media outreach activities by preparing background materials, story angles, and campaign messages, and assisting with responses to inquiries when appropriate.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Support TSWLIP’s engagement with municipal, provincial, and institutional partners by preparing materials and assisting with coordination.
- Contribute to shared messaging and coordinated responses related to emerging community or sector wide issues.
- Participate in community tables, sector networks, and LIP wide activities to support campaign outreach and relationship building.
Sector Collaboration
- Support the planning, facilitation, and follow up of working groups aligned with the role’s portfolio, including the Narrative Change Working Group.
- Coordinate partner input and collaboration in support of campaign goals and public education initiatives.
- Assist with the coordination and delivery of TSWLIP events, including Partnership Council meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the TSWLIP Manager (day to day supervision) and the COSTI Senior Director, Communications and Public Affairs (HR supervision).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., communications, journalism, public policy, political science, social work, immigration studies), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in public relations, media relations, government relations, or related communications roles.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector; familiarity with the immigrant-serving sector is preferred.
- Strong understanding of how social media influences public discourse.
- Strong knowledge of government processes, policy analysis, and community engagement practices.
- Proven ability to build networks, work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and manage multiple relationships simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop clear, concise tools, reports, and presentations.
- Experience with anti-oppressive, equity-centered approaches.
- Superior problem-solving, sound judgment, and ability to balance competing priorities.
- Knowledge of Toronto’s south-west communities.
