POSITION: Employment Counsellor

REPORTS TO: Associate Manager, Employment Services

WORK HOURS: 35 hours/week (in-person)

RATE OF PAY: $17.60 per hour

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Fixed-term contract  (8 consecutive weeks) June 22, 2026 – August 14, 2026

Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and client-focused Employment Counsellor to support job seekers through employment guidance, workshops, job search assistance, and community resource referrals. The successful candidate will assist with employment programs, client follow-ups, event coordination, and administrative support while promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide program support to Employment Consultants & Retention Specialist and clients
  • Assist with clients with employment related supports in a group and 1-1 setting
  • Provides information and orientation to clients on Dixie Bloor services and programs
  • Research online resources relevant to job search, upcoming employment related events/Job fairs and employment opportunities for jobseekers
  • Assists in the delivery of employment/digital workshops, and networking events
  • Contact clients about upcoming events/ job fairs and support follow up contacts for post-employment Clients
  • Maintains statistics for monthly reporting and timely entries within internal and external systems
  • Assist staff with coverage for reception duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision & Mentoring Plans:

  • The Associate Manager, Employment Services and Employment Consultants will supervise participants.
  • Participants will be introduced to the staff and an overview of the agency and the Employment Department
  • Training will include Health and Safety, Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality, HR Policies, including inclusion and diversity.
  • Participants will be oriented to the program features and equipment, intake and referral process, available resources, how to access resources, and reporting requirements.
  • Participants will work with a staff member who will act as a mentor and coach.
  • Participants will be given feedback to ensure that sufficient support is provided

Health & Safety Practices:

  • Participants will be provided with the mandatory WHMIS training and oriented to HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Full supervision will be provided, and a designated go-to senior staff will be assigned to provide additional support.

Participant Eligibility

To be eligible, youth must: 

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been granted/conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 

***International students are NOT eligible participants.
