Engaging Newcomer Youth in Virtual and Hybrid Spaces
Excited to invite SWIS workers to the upcoming virtual professional learning session:
Please save the dates in your calendars! Session outline is included below, and we hope you’ll join us for these engaging and insightful learning opportunities.
This workshop is designed for SWIS workers supporting newcomer youth in schools from diverse backgrounds. The session focuses on practical, easy-to-apply strategies for designing and delivering engaging, youth-centered activities within limited time and space, including virtual or hybrid settings.
Participants will explore common challenges when working with newcomer youth—such as engagement, communication, and varying comfort levels—and learn simple techniques to increase participation and build trust online. The workshop includes short presentations, guided discussions, and peer idea-sharing to support reflection and shared learning.
Participants will also receive practical tips on using virtual space, materials, and facilitation approaches to create welcoming, youth-friendly online environments. By the end of the session, participants will leave with strategies they can immediately apply in their school-based work with students and families.
