TERM CONTRACT  1.5 months WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EXTENSION

PCPI is a not-for-profit organization that provides Settlement, Training and Employment related to a diverse population of individuals and HR solutions for businesses. We are seeking a creative, dynamic and energetic individual who is results and customer service oriented.  Possessing working knowledge of settlement services, resources and workshop design combined with your excellent facilitation skills. The incumbent will be experienced in developing and delivering employment related workshops that incorporate various learning styles. 

Additionally, you will utilize your knowledge of resources available to support newcomers in successfully integrating into their community and your assessment skills to assess newcomers’ needs, plan activities to address those needs and/or to refer them to services for appropriate interventions as needed.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Settlement Worker will provide the following general duties:

  • Work as part of a team to develop and outreach plan to form community partnerships and to attract newcomers to the program.
  • Engage newcomer clients in a holistic intake and assessment process to identify and to prioritize their settlement needs in developing a settlement plan that aims to support them in settling in their community and finding employment. 
  • Provide one-on-one support to newcomers and their families in achieving their settlement and integration goals. 
  • Identify resources, employment and language training to assist newcomers and coordinate referrals to appropriate internal and external services and or activities, taking into consideration their uniqueness that is not limited to culture, language, and background. 
  • Actively work with external service providers and government agencies to maximize newcomers’ access to resources. 
  • Support clients in breaking isolation and engaging in appropriate social networks and supports. 
  • Plan, develop, facilitate, and evaluate group activities designed for newcomers while adhering to the requirements of the newcomer settlement project. 
  • Participate in all aspects of the settlement services satisfaction surveys, progress monitoring and project evaluation. 
  • Maintain case files for families and individuals that chronologically captures services and support provided, their settlement plan and their progress in settlement and exit feedback through a survey. 
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in ICARE database for statistic purposes and for project progress report to the Ministry. 
  • Meet the prescribed target for clients and related services. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 Assess eligibility for settlement services by reviewing all applicants’ documents prior to accepting them as a newcomer client.

  • Identify appropriate settlement supports and services for newcomer individuals and families by utilizing the settlement project needs assessment tool to assist in determining their individual needs to develop an appropriate settlement plan.
  • Obtain clients consent to collect their personal information and ensure they are informed of how their information will be stored and used.
  • Make timely and appropriate referrals to settlement activities, education, training    or other services that are consistent with clients’ settlement plan.
  • Maintain an up-to-date toolbox of settlement services and resources that is made available to newcomers to assist them in their community and across the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Provide case management through regular interaction with clients and chronologically document their progress in a clear, concise non-subjective manner, steps/actions taken and follow up with clients bi-monthly until all settlement goals are achieved.
  • Utilize Project’s database management systems (e.g. HARTS, ICare and Excel database) and program processes to manage participation effectiveness and referrals to internal and external activities and services. 
  • Input clients’ activity participation in the required database management systems daily, adhering to the project’s guidelines for collecting data to capture trends, monitor milestones and metrics to comply with government contribution agreement for the project.
  • Develop and deliver Information and Orientation group sessions such as information on banking, housing, safety in the community and employment related services needed to become job ready.
  • Provide quality customer service by responding to clients’ needs and queries in a knowledgeable, timely and professional manner and by providing them with an opportunity to give feedback on service received.
  • Identify and address issues and concern that arise and by actively listening and by collaborating with colleagues, community partners, employers and clients and working with project manager to resolve them in a timely manner and accurately recording the issues and outcomes. 
  • Provide staff coverage as assigned and respond to other duties as needed to ensure smooth and continual service.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings, share ideas, work collaborative with colleagues to recommend new initiatives and be willing to provide other duties as required.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Social Sciences or Social Work with two years related work experience (i.e. Settlement and Integration worker) preferred.

  • Community College diploma in Settlement and Employment Counselling is a valued asset. 
  • Life Skills certificate an asset.
  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral), interpersonal, analytical and creative problem-solving skills are required.
  • An Adult Education certificate is an asset to facilitate learner centered workshops.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office is required.    
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada is required.
  • Experience working as part of a team and is also self-directed.
  • Possess superior judgements, political acuity and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

In-person/work office environment – occasional weekend as needed. Some travel is required for meetings and outreach.
