 Community Worker - Canada Summer Jobs Program

Bengali Information and Employment Services (BIES) is a charitable, non-profit, community-based grass-roots organization that offers employment, settlement, mental health, informational and educational support to the communities at Taylor-Massey and Crescent Town Area in the City of Toronto. BIES is looking to hire a youth in a Community Worker role for the summer of 2026. The job is for 16 weeks under the Canada Summer Jobs program of the Government of Canada. 

Job Summary:

BIES is seeking a skilled and creative individual to fill the position of Community Worker. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and managing digital content, as well as developing and implementing fundraising tools to support our programs and services. The Community Worker will collaborate closely with our team to engage and communicate with the community, strengthen organizational visibility and impact, and enhance overall fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage and build strong relationships within the community by promoting programs, services, and outreach initiatives to increase organizational visibility and impact.
  • Develop and manage high-quality digital content (social media, websites, blogs, and promotional materials) to raise awareness on social issues and community programs.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support youth volunteers, including managing a Youth Council to foster leadership, positive engagement, and community development.
  • Plan and implement fundraising tools to support program sustainability.
  • Organize and deliver community events, workshops, and seminars focused on mental health, environmental awareness, safety, and overall community well-being.
  • Perform administrative and coordination tasks, including documentation, reporting, stakeholder communication, and representing the organization at community events and partnerships.  

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be between 18-30 years old, a Canadian Citizen/permanent resident, or a conventional refugee.
  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in social services or a related field is preferred.
  • Have a valid SIN and be legally entitled to work in Canada by Ontario provincial regulations.
  • Experience in digital content creation and fundraising, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Experience with social media platforms, website content management systems, and email marketing tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.; however, the ability to communicate in Bengali will be preferred.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively: good time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Candidates should be a self-starter who requires minimal supervision and is flexible to work on some weekends and evenings.

This is an hourly position starting from first week of May 2026 for 16 weeks period (weekly 30 hours) at a minimum provincial hourly wage rate. Those who are interested can apply. BIES is an equal opportunity employer, however, only the eligible candidates will be called for interview.
