Summary
ACCT is seeking a full-time, dynamic, and culturally competent Legal Support Worker for the NOUR (Navigating Our Rights) Project. This full-time role supports newcomer women of Arab and African backgrounds by providing needs assessment, client intake, legal navigation support, developing and adapting accessible legal education materials, and facilitating referrals to appropriate legal services. The successful candidate will apply a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to client service and community outreach.
Responsibilities

Conduct culturally sensitive, trauma-informed intake and needs assessments with newcomer women.

Provide individualized support navigating Ontario’s legal system (e.g., family law, housing, immigration).

Facilitate warm referrals to legal aid, pro bono lawyers, and community legal clinics.

Assist in the creation and dissemination of multilingual plain-language legal resources and a searchable legal services map.

Facilitate some General Awareness Sessions as well as Legal Navigator Training sessions, independently or in collaboration with partners

Assist in training, mentoring, and coordinating community Legal Navigators.

Track referrals, document case notes, and compile client service data for evaluation purposes.

Attend outreach events and deliver presentations in collaboration with partner agencies, if applicable

In coordination with the Project Coordinator, monitor and report on Legal Navigators’ outreach and peer-led sessions.

Ensure compliance with confidentiality, safety, and privacy policies.

Support final evaluation and sustainability planning.

Perform other tasks as required by the Executive Director.
Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Law, Paralegal Studies, or a related discipline.

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience supporting clients in legal, settlement, or social service settings.

Working knowledge of Ontario’s legal system, including family, housing, employment, and immigration law.

Strong interpersonal and active listening skills, with demonstrated cultural sensitivity.

Strong understanding of gender-based barriers and systemic challenges facing survivors of violence, immigrant, racialized, and newcomer women is a strong asset.

Ability to communicate legal information in plain language.

Proven leadership and facilitation skills; experience supervising staff or volunteers.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and comfortable using data tracking tools

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Fluent in English; proficiency in Arabic, Somali, or French is a strong asset.

Must possess and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
