About 

Reception House is a non-profit, community-based organization that delivers quality settlement, integration and support services to refugees and newcomers in Waterloo Region. Since 1987, Reception House has assisted thousands of refugees rebuild their lives in Canada through specialized programs and services designed to help them become established in their new communities. 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Fundraising Manager, on an 8-month contract, to lead our Fundraising and Communications team. The Fundraising Manager will focus on fundraising initiatives to find and secure donations and additional funding opportunities for Reception House. They will identify and manage potential grant applications, build relationships with funders and donors and maintain the organization’s relational database. The Fundraising Manager will participate in the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), contributing to organizational-wide growth, success and workplace culture.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify grant opportunities aligned with organizational goals and write tailored grant applications to secure funding.
  • Provide direct management to the Fundraising and Communication Team by providing support, direction and completing performance reviews.
  • Lead and manage the organization and planning of fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with funders and donors, aligning their objectives with the organization's programs and goals.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy with defined goals, targets, plans, and evaluation process to improve fundraising outcomes.
  • Assist with managing existing grants throughout the grant period by maintaining donor and funder relationships, ensuring grant compliance and providing reports if needed.
  • Oversee and maintain the organization's relational donor database, ensuring it's up-to-date and complies with policies.
  • Develop and modify queries and analysis options, focusing on donor trends, retention reporting, and donation level analysis.
  • Develop and manage the Fundraising and Communications department budget, creating budget reports when needed.
  • Generate reports as needed to support various campaigns and fundraising initiatives.
  • Responsible for data collection, research, grant writing, and developing sustainability models for organizational growth.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, enhance recurring funding streams and capital reserves while diversifying funding sources.
  • Research and pursue core funding opportunities to support the organization’s operations and administration, including drafting and submitting grant proposals.
  • Other applicable duties as assigned.

What you’ll need: 

  • Completion of an accredited post secondary degree or diploma program in fundraising, marketing/public relations, community development or equivalent education and experience in fundraising, and non-profit sector. 
  • Completion of, or working towards, CFRE designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising, event planning and grant writing, with at least 2 years experience in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of delivering results with project management and event planning.
  • Knowledge of donor database management and reporting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising techniques and grant proposal writing process.
  • Intermediate-advanced computers skills, including proficient use of MS office 365, and digital platforms for data entry and reporting, and navigating databases.
  • Excellent research skills and ability to navigate the internet to find resources and funding opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced writing skills for story telling, persuasion, and professional communication.
  • Ability to organize, train and delegate work tasks, evaluate and coach someone else’s performance.
  • Upholds ethical fundraising practices and maintain donor confidentiality with utmost integrity.
  • Aptitude for learning and understanding programs and funding requirements of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities.
  • Eager to meet new people and enjoys speaking and presenting in front of others.
  • High drive and initiative with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with various groups.
  • Takes proactive steps to build relationships, solve challenges, and improve services.
  • Manages multiple responsibilities and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Builds relationships easily with colleagues, funders, and external partners.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and strong networking skills.

Working conditions: 

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region regularly.
  • Comfortable working in both office settings and community locations (e.g., employer sites, community centers).
  • Heightened risk of exposure to communicable diseases, vicarious trauma and high-stress environment.  
  • Extended periods of time spent sitting, working on computer using mouse and keyboard.  
  • Must be physically able to move freely throughout buildings and travel within community with reasonable accommodations as required.

Compensation:

  • $38.46 - $41.21 per hour
