The Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights (RWHCR) is pleased to invite you to the upcoming Lunch & Learn: Supporting Sudanese Asylum Claims.
About the event
As the humanitarian crisis in Sudan continues to devolve, the need to reduce barriers for those seeking safety abroad increases in urgency.
This lunch-hour webinar will equip immigration and refugee lawyers, social workers, psychosocial workers, law clerks, and members of immigration and refugee law clinics to use findings from the RWCHR’s groundbreaking report, “Breaches of the Genocide Convention in Darfur, Sudan: An Independent Inquiry” to support the cases of Sudanese clients seeking asylum in Canada, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere.
Speakers
The webinar will be hosted by the co-authors of the report:
- Yonah Diamond, RWCHR Senior Legal Counsel.
- Mutasim Ali, RWCHR Legal Advisor, SJD Candidate at American University College of Law.
Mr. Diamond and Mr. Ali also co-chair the RWCHR’s Sudan Taskforce for Accountability and Justice, a global taskforce dedicated to holding the perpetrators of these mass atrocities in Sudan and their enablers to account.
Mr. Diamond and Mr. Ali will summarize the report’s key findings and evidentiary basis and then welcome questions from participants.
As part of the registration process, you are invited to tell the organizers a bit about why you’re interested in this topic and to submit questions to the presenters. You will receive a Zoom link for the event a few days before the event.
The event is open to the public.
