Submission Guidelines

Please read this section carefully. If you disagree with any term or condition, we ask that you do not use the services offered by this web site.

This page outlines the criteria used internally to determine whether a content partnership request and link request will be granted. Information is:

  • In keeping with the OCASI and SettlementAtWork mission and principles.
  • Accurate.
  • Complete.
  • Relevant to the needs of settlement workers and newcomers. 
  • Written for settlement workers. 
  • Written in plain and clear language.
  • Does not promote the services or wares of a particular for-profit company (i.e., advertising, commercial in nature).
  • Explanatory rather than advocative.
  • Not time-sensitive (ideal).
  • Written for people living in Ontario (required) and applicable province-wide (ideal).

Why should I categorize my content?

When sharing content, it should be categorized using the SettlementAtWork vocabularies of defined terms. Doing so will make it easier for other users to find your content.

There are three vocabularies:

  • Regions
  • Topics
  • Tags

Examples:

  • Regions
    • Content can be categorized with the term “Canada”, then more specifically categorized with the subset terms “Yukon”, “Northwest Territories” and “Nunavut”.
    • Content can be categorized with just the subset terms “Yukon”, “Northwest Territories” and “Nunavut”.
  • Topics
    • Content can be categorized with the term “Accessibility”, and add more topics that apply to the content such as "Mental Health and Wellness" or "Workplace"
  • Tags
    • If your content does not fit any of the topics, you can yours in tags; or use one that someone else has already input. 

Resources

Resources on a wide variety of subjects related to the immigrant and refugee serving sector:

  • Best Practices/Practical Guide : 

A source of in-depth information, often including practical tools such as checklists, step-by-step procedures and other how-to information.

  • Course/Training : 

A facilitated or self-directed learning opportunity, designed to upgrade one's skills or knowledge or become qualified to work in a specific topic area.

  • Glossary/Factsheet : 

A handy quick reference on a specific topic, summarizing important concepts, definitions or terms

  • Research/Dataset : 

An academic study, in-depth research report or statistical data set.

  • Template/Sample: 

A customizable example of a checklist, form, plan, policy, etc.

  • Tool : 

A solution designed to directly support your work.

Jobs / Request for Proposals

For those posting jobs, we offer you an opportunity to post jobs in connection with your seeking qualified candidates for jobs with your organization.  By submitting a job to the SettlementAtWork.Org site, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

The mission of the SettlementAtWork.Org website is to provide information and opportunities to professionals working with and for newcomers to Canada. Any other use of this website is strictly forbidden. This includes the following forbidden uses:

  • posting of nonexistent job opportunities
  • use of this web site other than to recruit for lawful employment (e.g. disguised commercial advertising)

The job opportunities submitted to SettlementAtWork.Org to be posted must meet the following criteria:

  • The opportunity must be relevant to those working with and for the settlement/immigrant sector.
  • The job opportunity must be from or for a Canada-based non-profit organization.
  • The job opportunity must be in Ontario.
  • Must be a paid job opportunity (Volunteer positions will not be posted).
  • The opportunity must have appropriate information including: Employer name, deadline date, contact information.  Job postings with incomplete, misleading and/or erroneous descriptions will not be posted.

Please Note:  Each job submission will be reviewed and edited by Settlement At Work staff before posting. Job submissions are generally posted within 3 business days. OCASI reserves the right to refuse any job posting and/or job offer that is deemed incompatible with the management philosophy of the SettlementAtWork.Org website.

Events

For your event to be considered for posting, it must be:

  • In Ontario
  • A registered non-profit or charity 
  • Of interest to newcomers, or those who work with newcomers

All events are reviewed by SettlementAtWork.Org staff before posting. Events that fail to meet the above criteria will not be posted.

Please note that our Events section is currently for one-time events, such as workshops, webinars, information sessions and conferences, not ongoing programs with continuous intake.

If you have an ongoing program, send us information about your initial information or registration session and we will include it in Resources.

All news items that are relevant to ongoing development of the settlement sector such as government updates, media scan, public announcement, and more.
