OTTAWA, Ontario — Every generation grows up with a new technology that shifts how they learn, create, and search for information—from home internet and smartphones to social media and now, artificial intelligence.

In our latest MTM JR report, All Eyes On AIs: How Canadian Teens Use AI Tools, we took a close look at how young Canadians are adopting AI into their daily routines, which tools they prefer, and what they actually use them for.

Key highlights from this report

Daily adoption is growing fast

Awareness among Canadian teens has reached 89% (up from 72% in 2024). Today, 61% of teenagers use AI tools monthly, and 20% rely on them daily.

ChatGPT dominates the market

70% of teen users stick to just one or two tools. ChatGPT leads by a wide margin (80% usage), followed by Google Gemini (36%) and Microsoft Copilot (24%).

Search habits are shifting

61% of teen AI users now use AI tools to get direct answers to questions instead of searching on traditional search engines. Notably, teenage girls are twice as likely as boys (18% vs. 8%) to use AI for personal advice and emotional venting.
