What’s shaping the future of Canada’s nonprofit sector?
Canadian nonprofits are moving forward, but with less room for error.
The 2026 Canadian Nonprofit Technology Trends Report explores how organizations are responding to financial pressure, changing donor expectations, digital transformation, and AI.
The findings reveal a sector balancing ambition with growing constraints:
- 58% of nonprofits saw program costs increase over the past year
- 48% say decreases in funding are one of their biggest external barriers
- 69% cite a lack of financial resources as a barrier to achieving their priorities
- 85% are digitizing or planning to digitize key processes
Expectations are changing too. 46% of respondents say measurable impact is what corporate and government funders are most interested in seeing, putting greater pressure on nonprofits to connect financial and program data with the story of their mission.
The report also looks at AI adoption, digital readiness, funding pressures, and what these trends mean for nonprofit finance leaders heading into 2027.
