Roundtable: Amplifying the Leadership of Im/Migrants with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future

In honor of International Day for People with Disabilities, OCASI’s Accessibility Initiative invites you to a panel discussion around the intersection of immigration policy, disability, and leadership in Canada. The roundtable will bring together service providers and individuals with lived experience to discuss ways to amplify inclusive leadership among immigrants with disabilities.

By joining, you’ll contribute to the following key objectives:

  • Highlight good practices where im/migrants with disabilities have taken on leadership roles within organizations and communities.
  • Examine systemic barriers that hinder equitable participation, particularly in the context of rising anti-immigrant sentiments and limited recognition of immigrants’ economic and social contributions.
  • Assess the effectiveness of legislation such as the Accessible Canada Act and AODA in empowering immigrants with disabilities to recognize their strengths and leadership potential.
  • Promote cross-sectoral collaboration among community organizations, policymakers, and people with lived experience to foster authentic inclusion and representation.
  • Develop actionable recommendations and next steps for advancing leadership opportunities for immigrants with disabilities in decision-making and service delivery systems.
