POSITION: Community Development Facilitator
REPORTS TO: Community Health Program Manager
WORK HOURS: 35 hours per week
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 1 year with possible extension

JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Development Worker plays a vital role in fostering social inclusion, promoting health equity, and building culturally responsive, resilient neighborhood networks. Working within DBNC’s Community Health Program, the role focuses on engaging newcomers, equity-deserving populations, and community stakeholders to co-create programs that strengthen access to services and enhance community wellbeing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Engagement and Program Delivery
- Identify community strengths and gaps to promote inclusion and access to services
- Facilitate culturally appropriate events and forums on relevant topics (e.g., local history, Indigenous relations, immigration)
- Conduct active outreach and build trust with vulnerable and newcomer populations
- Co-design initiatives with residents and local groups that address emerging needs
- Support volunteer participation and leadership development among community members
- Provide one-on-one and group support in navigating community programs and services
Partnerships and Collaboration
- Build and maintain partnerships with service providers, grassroots groups, and community leaders
- Collaborate with DBNC staff including health ambassadors, case managers, settlement and employment counselors, and social workers
- Ensure two-way communication between DBNC and the community that reflects lived experiences
Communication and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of community engagement, activities, and referrals
- Support program evaluation through data collection and success stories
- Prepare internal and external reports as required
Organizational Contribution
- Attend team meetings and support DBNC initiatives that align with organizational goals
- Represent DBNC at community events, coalitions, and outreach activities
- Provide mentorship to volunteers and placement students when needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Community Development, Social Services, Human Services, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in community engagement, newcomer settlement, or grassroots organizing
- Strong knowledge of equity, inclusion, and the social determinants of health
- Experience working with diverse populations including immigrants, refugees, women, and seniors
- Skilled in group facilitation, public speaking, and community-led planning
- Demonstrated ability to work from a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and anti-oppressive approach
- Strong knowledge of local systems and barriers to health, housing, and services for newcomers
- Proficient in MS Office and comfortable with virtual engagement tools
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu) is a strong asset
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation preferred
