Summary

Building Multicultural Communities (BMC) is a charity established in 1987 that provides settlement and social services to newcomers, immigrants and the larger community in the Peel Region. Our mandate and core business is to enable less advantaged individuals, families and groups in the community to reach their full potential, enhance their life skills, and create a better future. BMC has a variety of specialized programs that cater to specific demographics and focus on providing different services such as (Settlement, Mental Health, Youth Development, Employment, and Seniors Support) making BMC a one-stop-shop for needed services. The EES will manage ongoing employer relationships to successfully generate and secure employment opportunities for clients, develop and maintain employer databases, arrange job matching and placement, negotiate employer wage incentives and support job retention while maintaining a caseload of clients, which will include individuals facing multiple barriers to employment, newcomers, at risk youth, people with disabilities, Indigenous people and those supported through OW and ODSP under the Integrated Employment Services Delivery – Employment Ontario program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clients with information on the Employment Ontario (EO) program as well as all relevant resources and services available in the community
  • Identify, outreach, orient, recruit, and support program participants in a virtual and a physical setting
  • Conduct individual employment assessments and career testing, provide one-on-one counselling support and develop client service delivery plans
  • Provide coaching, support, and mentorship for youth in the initial stages of employment and maintain relations with employers; Ensure services provided reflect participants’ needs, abilities and employment goals
  • Case manage clients in accordance with the Service Plans (SP), updating and closing the SPs in a timely manner. Coordinate with OW/ODSP Caseworkers as required
  • Facilitate pre-employment workshops that will prepare clients to market themselves to employers and to find and maintain employment; Update and enhance curriculum to match requirements of the program
  • Deliver sessions on orientation to the workplace, rules and expectations of employers, rights and responsibilities of employers and employees, Canadian workplace culture, etc.
  • Provide coaching, support, and mentorship for clients in the initial stages of employment and maintain relations with employers, including client/employer retention support
  • Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies to connect with employers
  • Communicate with potential employers to enhance awareness about the program and employment support services available for them
  • Liaise with community professionals and employers to create competitive employment opportunities for clients
  • Negotiate Employment and Training Incentives and other supports with employers
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive employer database which includes eligibility, record of site visits, employer profile and all other relevant data
  • Provide culturally sensitive employment services, including intake and assessment, one-to-one and group employment counselling and referrals when required
  • Monitor all placements, oversee training plan development and conduct on-going follow-up to ensure successful employment outcomes for program participants
  • Address financial barriers to client participation in employment and on-the-job training opportunities, by identifying and administering Employment and Training Incentives
  • Maintain client and employer files using CaseFlo and internal BMC databases as required by EO, including case notes and action plans. The approximate caseload is 150 cases per year.
  • Evaluate the outcome of the program and the ability to do in-depth analysis
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Any other related duties complementary to the job
  • Reports to Executive Director or his/her designate 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • University Graduate or Diploma in Training, Human Services profession and/or a Certificate in Career Development or similar
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated work experience in career development and employment training. Prior experience with Employment Ontario (EO) is an asset
  • Knowledge of labour market issues and trends as they relate to the geographic, demographic and economic aspects of Peel, Halton and GTA
  • Knowledge of employment search techniques through the internet, career information, resume, interview techniques and labour market trends
  • Skills and experience in conducting research and needs assessment, ability to develop workshops, provide/facilitate training
  • Knowledge of community and government services, programs, resources, and outreach practices
  • Demonstrated experience in case and file management
  • Well organized, team player who is able to take initiative, manage change/transitions with the ability to prioritize and multitask and meet deadlines and targets
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of participants and establish rapport successfully
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), Adobe software, and Web-based databases (CASEFLO/POWERBI/CAMS/EOIS/CTIMS) etc.
  • Fluent in English and the ability to speak a second language is a definite asset
  • Flexible to work evenings or weekends, if and when required
  • A police check is required at your own expense
  • Must own a vehicle and a valid driver's license, and liability insurance that covers your vehicle to be used for job-related travelling as and when needed
