About Reception House

Reception House is a non-profit, community-based organization that delivers quality settlement, integration and support services to refugees and newcomers in Waterloo Region. Since 1987, Reception House has helped thousands of refugees rebuild their lives in Canada through specialized programs and services designed to help them become established in their new communities. 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full time Job Developer, Manufacturing Program on our Employment team.  The Job Developer plays a key role in building employer relationships within the manufacturing sector and negotiating placements, ensuring successful job matches and participant retention. They will act as the main point of contact for employers and work closely with Employment Specialists and program staff to coordinate participant placements, work experiences, and employment opportunities. The Job Developer is an outgoing, personable and reliable worker who enjoys meeting new people, building relationships, and promoting program services to employers and community stakeholders

What You’ll Do: 

  • Meet with local manufacturing businesses and employers to determine recruitment needs and negotiate potential job placements, work experiences, and employment opportunities for participants.
  • Use sales tactics to build professional relationships with prospective employers, promoting program services and participant talent.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employers, building strong partnerships and acting as the main employer contact.
  • Conduct employer outreach, recruitment activities, and hiring events to support participant employment outcomes.
  • Analyse labour market data, employer workforce needs, and participant outcomes to refine job development strategies and track successful placements and hires.
  • Work closely with Employment Specialists and program staff to identify job opportunities that match the skills, interests, and career goals of participants to facilitate successful employment outcomes.
  • Match participant skills and interests with employer workforce needs and coordinate employer introductions.
  • Collaborate with employers to generate employment opportunities and support successful placements and participant retention.
  • Coordinate interviews, placement activities, onboarding processes, and follow-up support with employers and participants.
  • Develop job descriptions and specifications in collaboration with employers.
  • Share new job opportunities with program staff and others as indicated in department procedures.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with employers to support successful placements, retention, and participant success.
  • Attend employment-related events, community engagement activities, and industry networking opportunities to promote program services and secure employment opportunities for participants.
  • Regularly update the database as needed, tracking employer engagement activities, placements, hires, employment outcomes, collecting feedback, and offering recommendations on program activities.
  • Support program staff when needed with participant job search preparation activities and employment readiness initiatives.

What You’ll Need:

  • Post secondary education in human services, marketing or any business-related field.
  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar or related role, such as job development, business development, B2B sales, or employment services.
  • Knowledge of Employment Ontario protocols and processes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing sector, workforce needs, and local employment opportunities is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the local labour market, employment pathways and trends is preferred.
  • Proficiency with technology required, specific skills in Microsoft Office and Employment Ontario databases an asset.
  • Able to think critically and use resources effectively.
  • Ability to create presentations and resources.
  • Strong time management, organization skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employers, community stakeholders, industry partners, and internal staff to achieve program goals.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a desire to meet new people, network and leverage relationships with employers.
  • Resilience, perseverance, and an ability to overcome objections.
  • Collaborative team player with a strong customer service focus.
  • Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization. 
  • Ability to take initiative, negotiate and be pro-active.

Working Conditions: 

  • A valid driver’s license and access to a car is required.
  • Travel within Waterloo Region needed to attend off-site meetings and events.
  • Must be able to move freely throughout buildings and travel within community with reasonable accommodations as required.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings or events.
